iMedia Converter

The third Mac video converter in our list, iMedia Converter for Mac, provides many of the file conversion tools and features as our other top products. Additionally, this application offers a combination of video editing features that we found in no other software we reviewed, which is why we named this application our TopTenREVIEWS Bronze Award winner.

Features Product Feature Score Product Feature Score Product Feature Score Product Feature Score

iMedia Converter for Mac is the only video converter for Mac we reviewed that offers the ability to both split and merge files. This is a key attribute if you want to do a lot of editing in addition to converting video files. Other great editing features include the ability to crop the video’s image to remove unwanted objects from the picture and option for adjusting the video’s brightness, saturation, contrast and audio volume. You can also design and add a text or image watermark and add special effects filters to your video, like emboss, gray, old film and more.
The most convenient of these editing features is the preview function. Like many other Mac video converters, you can view the unedited and the edited videos side-by-side to compare the two. But unlike other applications we reviewed, this iMedia Converter for Mac automatically loops the video and plays it on repeat, so you don’t have to manually restart the video each time it ends.
As for conversion features, this application definitely holds its own with the rest of the best video converter for Mac software. It offers conversion profiles in a well-organized display, so finding the right output format is simple, whether you’re converting video for an iPod Nano or a PS3 game console. Customizing these profiles is simple, without the added hassle of opening a separate options pane, and you can even save these customized profiles in the user-defined section of the conversion profiles.
Other key Mac video conversion tools include the standard abilities to extract audio and video and determine specific output parameters for your video files Batch conversion allows you to covert several files at once. You can also convert one file into multiple output formats, but you have to manually add the original file once for each desired output file.

Supported Video Formats Product Feature Score Product Feature Score Product Feature Score Product Feature Score

This Mac video converter can convert between all the major video file formats, though it does lack a few of the less-common ones like SWF and RealMedia files. Though this is a drawback, it certainly is not a deal breaker. iMedia Converter for Mac easily handles most other formats as both input and output formats, including a wide array of high-definition (HD) formats.

Other Supported Formats Product Feature Score Product Feature Score Product Feature Score Product Feature Score

iMedia Converter for Mac also acts as a fantastic audio converter. It easily converts between all the most common audio formats, and even some less-common ones, like APE and OGG files. Not only can it convert from one audio format to another, but this video converter for Mac can also extract audio by converting a video file into any of the supported audio formats.
This video converter for Mac software can also extract an image snapshot from a video, but only into a JPG file. Other applications can extract or even convert image files in other formats, but we feel that extra formats are far from necessary. After all, most image viewing application can easily save image files in different formats.

Ease of Use Product Feature Score Product Feature Score Product Feature Score Product Feature Score

This Mac video converter meets our basic requirements for being easy to use, but it does not go beyond the basics in this category. You can drag and drop files into the software, and all the features work as they are supposed to work. But navigating within the software does take some getting used to when you first get started. The most difficult aspect, for us, was figuring out how to navigate from the editing screen back to the main conversion screen. As it turns out, you have to click the red X button in the top-left corner of the editing screen to return to the main screen, which is counterintuitive because that button usually closes the software window itself.

Help & Support Product Feature Score Product Feature Score Product Feature Score Product Feature Score

This Mac video converter offers some outstanding help and support features. The software automatically checks for updates to install, ensuring that you’ll always have the most recent bug fixes for it. The user manual is basic at best: just an HTML file that can be viewed offline. However, the online help resources are wonderful. iSkysoft’s website has a great FAQs list, tutorials and troubleshooting tips.
You can contact the technical support team via email or online contact form, and they responded to our question in under 12 hours. Their answer to our question was also one of the most detailed and friendly answers we got from all of the technical support teams we contacted.

Summary

Overall, we found iMedia Converter for Mac to be a stand out example of a Mac video converter. Further, its video editing features make it stand out from its peers, and it will also convert audio files. Navigation can be a little challenging, but you'll find all kinds of help online if you ever get stuck. The software is not compatible with a few of the less-common file types, and it's image tools are limited. Overall it's one of the best, but if you’re looking for a different combination of features, however, check out our side-by-side comparison of video converter for Mac software.
